Advent events this week

This week there are several things taking place:

Tuesday, December 1 @ 7pm, Mission Church
Advent by Candlelight. Advent by Candlelight will inspire you and connect you with Advent like never before. Please come to hear personal testimony from parishioners of how Jesus has touched their lives and join in with the beautiful music. Refreshments will follow. You're encouraged to attend this hour-long event and especially, to invite anybody you know searching for a way to fill that void in their life, whatever it may be. Inspirational stories, beautiful music, delicious food, and new-found friends are sure to give Advent a renewed meaning in your life.

Wednesday, December 2 @ 6:30pm, Blessed Sacrament Chapel.
Taizé Prayer. Taizé is a form of chanted prayer that is meditative and beautiful. It will lead you to a quiet place where you can speak with God.

Friday, December 4 @ 12:10pm, Mission Church

Mass for the Feast of St. Barbara. Friday is the feast day for the patroness of both our parish and our city.

Sunday, December 6 after all Masses

Global (Alternative) Gift Faire. If you're looking for a special gift take a look at what's available outside the church next Sunday.

Morning Glory

Morning was glorious,
Thin clouds luminous,
The brisk breeze
Welcome relief
After sticky-hot yesterdays,

And it’s been that way
All week, Lord,

Getting confused,
Though the world
Persists in panic,

I'm easily amused

I was browsing through a catalog from Acta Publications when I came across a CD called God's Greatest Hits. I had to laugh. What would be on an album like that?

As it turns out, it includes songs like:

Amazing Grace
Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee
Simple Gifts
Swing Low Sweet Chariot
Faith of Our Fathers
Holy, Holy, Holy

I wonder if that's what God considers his greatest hits?

Any thoughts on what you would put on a disc with that title?

Beautiful

When I walked out to the car this morning I had to stop and gaze at the mountains. They were so beautiful. And the words of the psalmist came to mind:

I lift up my eyes to the hills—
from where will my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
He who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is your keeper;
the Lord is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
The Lord will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time on and for evermore.

Center of My Life

At Mass yesterday the priest mentioned the song "You Are the Center of My Life." Since I walked out humming it I went looking for it on the web...and of course I found it.

Enjoy this version of Psalm 16. May he always be the center of our lives.
